  " G... you look crabby today". " He is now" came from someone at the counter. This is just one of the many friendly conversations that happened while we enjoyed a late mid week breakfast. There was also the review of a low cost dentist, "Is he one of those dentist that puts his knee on your chest to get leverage to pull a tooth". How about the one that involved everyone at the counter.  "What was the name of the movie with Franky Bobby in it"? "Was that one about a car racer", " oh you mean  Ricky Bobby"," that was Talladaga Nights, it is easy to come up with a movie name when you have the correct name, Franky Bobby yeah right"  laughs all around.
  Sandy's could just as well be called"Cheers of Highwood". Because everyone seems to know each other. Not being a regular didn't alter our welcome or the great service. Darcy made us feel  part of the family before my hot coffee arrived. But it was evident we weren't regulars as we ordered from the menu instead just giving a "yes" when asked if they wanted their usual as the regulars came thru the door.
  Now for our meals, my wife had some of best diner french toast she has ever enjoyed outside of our home kitchen. She added a large patty of local made Italian sausage. She keep saying "I can t eat it all". She did however join the clean plate club with a little help from me. That Italian sausage with a little syrup was to good not filch a few bites.
  I throughly enjoyed my Moron breakfast sandwich  which I smothered with house made hotsauce.
  Our breakfast was just simple food done right and the service and ambience nailed my expectations of the classic breakfast and lunch diner.
  We will be back.

  This place is great! Great prices, food & fantastic service! Will definitely be coming here once if not twice more before we leave town!
  I tell you what, if I could give Sandy's 10 stars I would!
  First time here, you are treated with great hospitality; second time in, you're treated like family! Sandy's daughter now runs this place, she remembered drinks for our whole family and where we were from...and remembered that we would be back. Very special lady, I'm certain that Sandy would be VERY PROUD with how her daughter is running this place. I hope I'm back in this area again so I can return here...
  If you're anywhere near this place, you should stop by!

  A surprise in Highwood....a noisy, busy little place with great food and great service.   Made the trek for something new and found a gem.   Try the homemade hot sauces...the red sauce comes with a warning you should heed.

  Very old school delicious diner. Total throwback with counter service and some booths. Filled with regulars and a sweet attentive wait staff who will chat you up and call you "hon". Yes, it's totally dated, but that's part of the charm. We really liked it!
  
  I had the garbage omelette which was very tasty and exceeded my expectations. It was more of a scramble style than a dense traditional omelette which I really liked. It was stuffed with bacon, ham, 2 kinds of cheese, broccoli, peppers, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes. I ordered my potato side extra crispy and they were well browned and had nice crunchy bits.
  
  We also tried:
  Pancake- good fluff, texture but standard flavor
  Ham off bone- very good
  Egg skillet- you pick your ingredients, my husband was very happy with it
  
  Prices are very reasonable.
  
  We plan on returning and adding it to our regular weekend breakfast rotation.

  Was in town on orders for the Navy.  Really like trying out the local diners when I travel.   Sandy's was excellent.  When we got our food our reactions were "holy s**t" that's a lot of food.  The fries were awesome.  The steak sandwich was delicious.  They made my burger special not on the menu.  If I'm ever back this way I will definitely stop back in.
